General Correspondence from the Personal Papers of Walter Jona

Series DescriptionGeneral Correspondence from the Personal Papers of Walter Jona include but are not limited to letters received by Jona in his capacity as a public figure and politician. Many pieces of correspondence was sent by Jona's constituents whilst serving as the Victorian State Member for Hawthorne, as well as various political and community organisations. Also included are letters sent to Jona from various prominent Jewish Organisations upon Jona's admission to the state Liberal Party in 1950 and the announcement of Jona's retirement from politics in 1985 - these organisations include St Kilda Hebrew Congregation, Australian Federation of Jewish Ex-Service Association, Mount Scopus Memorial College, Zionist Federation of Australia, Victorian Union for Progressive Judaism, and Australian Federation of Jewish Ex-Service Associations. A notable item of correspondence include a handwritten letter sent to Jona from Clementine S. Churchill thanking Jona for his condolences upon the death of Winston Churchill.
