Item Description8 x black and white photographs with details such as place and names at the back of the photographs. Photos taken in 1950s. Includes 4 negative sleeves. These photos would have been given to Sophie Caplan in the 1980s as they were in the same file as /001.276. Details below are taken from the back of the photographs in order to assist researchers/genealogists: a) Memorial Day at Chelmo, Poland on the site of he Forest Clearing where during the Nazi occupation gassing and burning of corpses took place. The people pictured are a group of Jewish Survivors then living in Lodz and their children born after the war. Yossel Cweigen-berg with his two children, who later emigrated to Brazil. next to him is Fishel Arbuz now of Sydney , Australia. Original photo from Fishel Arbuz b) A group of Jews in Piontek, a small town near Lodz. This photo was probably taken early during the German occupation and was preserved by a Polish Gentile who after the war gave it to Fishel Arbuz. The man on the left is Domankewicz and the woman on the far right wearing a scarf is his wife. They were the wealthiest couple of Piontek. Original photo from Fishel Arbuz c) Chelmo, Poland April 1953 or 1954 - Memorial Day at a mass grave of Jews killed in 1942. A group of Jewish survivors, then living in Lodz at the ceremony. Among them Fishel Arbuz, now of Sydney third from right in gabardine raincoat and next to him Mrs Feiga Cweigenberg who later emigrated to Brazil with her survivor husband their children born after he war.
