DescriptionThis book records 12,000 towns in the 19th century borders of the Kingdom of Hungary, which today includes the regions of Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovak Republic and Ukraine. Information for each community includes the religion practised, or if no church or synagogue, the town where each congregation worshipped. This is important for identifying, prior to civil registration in the 1850s, the Roman Catholic diocese and the church record for events concerning all faiths, including burial.

Information is based on the 1877 gazetteer, Magyarorszag Helysegnevtara (Hungarian Gazetteer), by Janos Dvorzsak.
