AJHS - Manuscripts & Ephemera

Series

Series DescriptionThe Ephemera Collection There is no specific provenance for this series and there is an absence of contextual information, that is a collection of items retained as they were acquired by donation or sourced. There is no indication of the number of years the items were collected and from a specific person/organisation, as there is an absence of a consignment history. The majority of the material are in themselves are original and will be the only copies and so they are primary sources for research purposes. The items now have been described thoroughly and have been separated into specific types of ephemera such as illuminated addresses, photo frames, portraits, plans, family trees, photographs and miscellaneous items. However, they form a single ephemera collection that was once held in the a flat plan cabinet. The items in the ephemera collection were prefixed with PF or P number with no particular significance or details. The overall categories are: - IllumAdd for Illuminated Addresses - PhotoFra for Photo Frames - Portraits for Portraits - Plans for Plans - FamilyTr for Family Trees - Photos for Photographs - Misc for Miscellaneous items Due to the method of collection, the original order of simply keeping things in the order which the person or institution originally kept them, as well as the provenance are missing. Certain records may have been kept together for a reason, even if it is not immediately obvious as to what that reason was.
