Scope & ContentThis is a collection of personal papers collected and compiled by Earle Hoffman. Earle was the consummate bureaucrat and kept and filed his life’s papers. He was also the major player in the establishment of the ACT Jewish Community. Earle came to Canberra in 1948 and was also active in many other early Canberra organizations for which he kept papers: the Canberra Art Club, Canberra University College (predecessor of the ANU), Canberra Childrens Theatre, ACT Cancer Society, Australian American Association (Earle did an MSc in Iowa), and many more. The collection entails: • Vimeo recording of the talk to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the ACTJC (1951) and the 50th anniversary of the opening of the National Jewish Memorial Centre (1971) - recorded on 12 December 2021 • Professional including publications from conferences • Education • Drashas Earle delivered at the NJMC • Organisations Earle contributed to in the early days of Canberra • Items Earle prepared for publication in Hamerkaz • Minutes of AJHS meetings 1985-2012 (Earle’s Presidency) • Jewish/Christian Dialogue • AJHS folders from 1984-2015 maintained by Sylvia Deutsch (Secretary & Vice President) • AJHS folders (Sylvia Deutsch & Victor Isaacs President – Victor was President for one year) & more of Earle’s folders
