Author(s) Raymond Apple AbstractThis article raises and answers questions in relation to anti-shehitah campaigns, with a particular focus on developments in post-war Melbourne with the campaign maintained by Rev. W.J. Salter and the Jewish community response led by Rabbi Jacob Danglow. It deals with the conflicts between Rabbis Danglow and Gurewicz, explains why in the end Gurewicz accepted Danglow's key role, and the arguments the latter put forward in defence of shehitah. It strongly argues that anti-shehitah campaigns are antisemitic, despite the denials of their supporters including Rev. Salter
