Author(s) Liz James AbstractBook Review: Rees & Benjamin: Watch & Clock Makers of Ballarat and Sovereign Hill was written this year for the Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum by family historian and Museum volunteer Keira Quinn Lockyer. It includes photos, family tree charts and information about dozens of Jews and their families in Ballarat during the Gold Rush, their involvement with the opening of the Ballarat Synagogue that still stands and their work as hoteliers, auctioneers and shopkeepers. Keira had been researching her three times great-uncle Henry Kyezor and members of her London Benjamin family when she found an 1857 connection between Kyezor's Melbourne clock- and watch-making business and Joseph Benjamin of Ballarat's Rees and Benjamin shop, now recreated at Sovereign Hill.
