Author(s) Jeffrey Cohen AbstractBook Review: This book should be read in concert with Derek Taylor's British Chief Rabbis 1664-2006, as well as Persoff's previous book Faith against Reason: Religious Reform and the British Chief Rabbinate 18401990.2 Also of interest for this review is Rabbi Ben Elton's PhD thesis from University of London on 'Britain's Chief Rabbis and the Religious Character of Anglo-Jewry, 1880-1970', published in 2014'. Rabbi Elton recently assumed the position of Senior Rabbi at Sydney's Great Synagogue. Persoff's book was written just as Rabbi Mirvis was succeeding Lord (Jonathan) Sacks as Chief Rabbi. It runs parallel with the second half of Taylor's book and starts with the election of Nathan Adler
