Author(s) Marett Leiboff AbstractThis article focusses on the last wave of Russian Jewish immigrants to come to Australia following the Tsar's oppressive May Laws, from the period 1913-1925. Looks particularly at Neplen Matanakes, aka Morris Leiboff, who arrived in QLD in 1915, having travelled via Harbin, Dairen, Kobe and Darwin. Looks at his early life, voyage, and life in Australia, with a focus on the discrimination he and his fellow immigrants were subjected to during a wave of anti-Communism.
