Author(s) John Goldlust AbstractThis article draws on family stories of refuge and exile of Polish Jews inside the USSR during WWII to sketch an often forgotten aspect of Jewish experience in WWII. The author asks why the experiences of Polish Jews who sought refuge in Russia is lesser known than the stories of Polish Jews under Nazi control, and looks at their life under the Soviets, looking at deportation programs, wartime scarcity and politics, and postwar experiences.
