Author(s) June Factor AbstractThis article looks at the Employment Companies of the Australian army, which provided essential labouring services during the war, and 11 of 39 of which consisted mainly of foreigners. The alien companies were not armed. This article looks particularly at Yosl Bergner, a Viennese-Polish Jewish painter, and Wolfgang Sievers, another artist, and their experiences in these Companies.
