Author(s) Tanya Warms AbstractThis article draws attention to the fact that there are many Jews buried in the Boroondara (General) Cemetery despite an absence of a designated Jewish section and suggests possible reasons for Jewish burials to be conducted within this 'non-Jewish' cemetery. It provides a brief history of the cemetery that was set up in 1856, located in the eastern metropolitan area of Melbourne and includes a description of the lives of some of those Jews whose memorials lie within it. Some were well known and led a public life, others represent more modest lives but who nonetheless may be typical of the wave of Jewish migration before and after World War II.
