AbstractThe history of the Jewish community in the Perth inner- city suburb of Northbridge from 1892-1974 is recounted and analysed. The community is examined in terms of its beginnings, communal life, public life and the era of transition from Northbridge to the suburb of Mt Lawley. Both the Perth Hebrew Congregation in Brisbane St which followed Anglo-Jewish traditions, and the breakaway Perth Jewish Association in Palmerston St (the little shule) which catered to the 'Yiddishers' from eastern Europe are discussed.
