Author(s) Suzanne Baker AbstractRichard Goldner, a former principal violinist with many famous orchestras in Vienna, arrived in Sydney as a refugee in 1939. Needing work, he and his brother started to manufacture women's jewellery. They produced goods that were previously from Europe. With a flourishing business the brothers became well known. This led them to be identified as being industrious and maybe able to invent a zipper that would operate in three dimensions. And they did, establishing Triflex P/L producing thousands of zippers. It was at this stage that Richard found out his dear friend, teacher and mentor in Vienna had been killed in the Warsaw Ghetto, having established an orchestra there. He and his wife were devastated and set about bringing Chamber music to Australia. In 1945 he founded the Musica Viva Society which today performs over 2500 concerts a year in both cities, regional areas and in schools.
