Author(s) Gael Hammer AbstractBook Review: The Sydney Great Synagogue community is the oldest continuously operating Jewish institution in Australia. Notably, since its 1841 foundation, there have been only four principal rabbis. Rabbi Alexander Barnard Davis was incumbent for an astonishing 41 years. Rabbis Francis Lyon Cohen and Rabbi Dr Israel Porush each wrote their histories of the congregation. Now it is the turn of the recently retired rabbi, Raymond Apple.
