AbstractAn article about family history, this piece looks at the debated origins of the Crawcour family, who appear to be a family of Sephardic Jews who fled Spain, settled in France, then settled in Britain and later in her colonies, but who may also be of Eastern European origin. The author sets out to solve this puzzle, and reprints many published snippets from newspapers and official records relating to early members of the family.
