Author(s) Serge Liberman AbstractBook Review: Paul Freadman passed the bulk of his 70 years as a self-perceived failure for not having reached the heights to which, as a youngster with the gifts he possessed, he had aspired- a life of intellect, ideally at a university or in a position of high office - best reflected in a remark he confides in his son when the latter is eleven: `I'm quite a successful person. Quite successful, but not as successful as Zelman.' I hope you don't mind, referring to his brilliant, illustrious and much decorated lifelong friend Sir Zelman Cowen reaching his peak as Governor-General of Australia.
