Author(s) Helen Bersten AbstractBook Review: Its author knew only fragments about her family's lives before their migration to Australia from Harbin in 1959. From photographs in her grandmother's possession she imagined romantic lives in romantic places and was particularly obsessed about her great aunt, Mania, after whom she was named. While on an overseas posting in 1992, she decided to visit Riga where some of her grandmother's family were living.
