Author(s) Lorraine Freeman AbstractThis article is a celebration of Australia's first centenary of Federation. The first section consists of primary sources which illustrate reactions to this event. These documents show the intensity of communal Anglophilia at the time, and attitudes to communal issues such as Zionism, Jewish education and charity. The second section contains some of the winning entries in a competition designed to encourage secondary school-age students to read and think about the Australian Jewish Historical Record, and to write about any aspect within its broad canon which has excited their imagination.
