AbstractThis article gives a history of religious life in Carlton from 1919 to 1939, focussing on the schism between Anglo-Jews, who tended to be more prosperous and less observant, and worshipped in Shairs Yisroel, and Polish Jews, who tended to be poorer and Orthodox, and prayed in a smaller synagogue.
