AbstractThis article contradicts the notion that Esther Isaacs, arr. 1816, and Barnett Levy, arr. 1821, were the first free Jewish emigrants to Australia, and argues that Isaac Leo Lyon, schoolmaster, who arrived 1809, but concealed his Jewish background, deserves this title.
