AbstractBook Review: The author, then known as Bernhardt Hellreich, was a young Jewish doctor in the Polish town of Tarnopol when the war broke out in 1939. His autobiography tells the remarkable story of his survival of both Soviet tyranny and the Nazi death machine, and of his migration to Newcastle, N.S.W., where he is now a general practitioner.
