AbstractDiscusses the Minister of Bourke Street Synagogue Dr Jattner Jacobson's 1878 argument that the Jewish faith more openly accept proselytes. This was spurred by East Melbourne's refusal to accept the conversion of two women who had been accepted by Bourke street. The article discusses the ramifications and circumstances of these events.
