AbstractBrief biography of David Poole, the first Jewish lawyer in Australia (though his Jewish heritage is disputed). Poole emigrated to Australia in 1828, aged 52, aboard the "Sarah" with his family. He was a barrister, solicitor, attorney and proctor of the Supreme Court of NSW. He represented Rebecca Levi and Esther Johnston, among other prominent Australian Jews. After some setbacks, he returned to England in 1845. Article also includes information about his son David Poole Jr., who lived in Tahiti.
