Author(s) David Benjamin AbstractThe following passages are those which relate to Tasmania published in the London Voice of Jacob. The system adopted in the presentation and annotation of the extracts was described in the last part of this Journal, and need not be repeated here. The main incidents covered are the foundations of the Synagogues in Hobart and Launceston and the unfortunate dispute over the refusal of Sir John Franklin to grant land for the purposes of the Launceston congregation. The explanation of this which is offered in the notes makes no claim to finality, but is at least worthy of consideration.
