Author(s) Judah Waten AbstractIt is not sufficiently known that. over the last fifteen years a considerable body of literary work of merit-short stories, novels, plays-with Jewish subject matter has been created in Australia by Jewish writers. It is proper to speak of this output as the outline of a Jewish literature, which in a sense is also part of Australian literature. There is one difficulty in viewing Jewish literature as part of the literature of the country. It is that of language. Jewish writing here is partly in Yiddish and partly in English. But the Yiddish works that have been translated into English have been readily accepted into the Australian literature.
