Author(s) Israel Porush AbstractThis subject bears a topical note because Empire Jewry, after an interregnum of two years, stands now on the eve of the election of a new Chief Rabbi in succession to the late Dr. J. H. Hertz, C.H. The interest therein is also enhanced by the fact that there is to-day growing recognition in many quarters that the time is ripe for closer and more systematic co-ordination of the Jewries of the Empire in the religious as well as in the secular field, even though nothing has as yet been done to organise such co-ordination. We have not reached the stage when Empire-wide Rabbinical, communal or congregational consultation can take place on common problems, and when the Jewries of the Commonwealth wield a united influence on the affairs of the Jewish people
