Marks, B.A., Founder and President since its inception of the Australian Jewish Historical Society, died at Kirribilli, North Sydney, on Sunday, June 22nd, 1941.Born at Maitland, New South Wales, he was the elder son of Joseph Marks, who for a period was Hon. Treasurer of the West Maitland Synagogue, and later was well known in Sydney as a wool buyer. A maternal grandfather, Samuel Benjamin was a Sydney merchant of the 'forties and 'fifties, and a member of the Building Committee and first Board of Management (1844) of the York Street, Sydney, Synagogue. Alderman E. S. Marks, C.B.E., a former Lord Mayor of Sydney, and Miss Hilda V. Marks, are brother and sister of deceased.
