Authority Biography/Administrative HistoryHenry Glanz grew up in Kiel on the Baltic coast of Germany, leaving for England on 1st September 1939. His sister, Gisela (Schacher) arrived in Australia from England at age 20 in 1947. On the day of Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass) on which the Nazis all over Germany sent thousands of Jewish families to their death, their mother Esther sent Henry and Gisela on a boat to escape suspicion. Both children were spared.
