Bob Sitsky collected clippings about Betar from the Sydney Jewish News from 1957 to 1965. These clippings were photocopied onto A3 paper by Agnes Kainer about 2013 and placed into two A3 folders. She subsequently gave them to Keith Masnick who suggested that an index of the clippings be compiled, and the clippings be digitised, and a copy of the digital version be given to the Australian Jewish Historical Society.

Scope & ContentBob Sitsky collected clippings about Betar from the Sydney Jewish News from 1957 to 1965. These clippings were photocopied onto A3 paper by Agnes Kainer about 2013 and placed into two A3 folders. She subsequently gave them to Keith Masnick who suggested that an index of the clippings be compiled, and the clippings be digitised, and a copy of the digital version be given to the Australian Jewish Historical Society. There are 103 A3 pages of clippings in two folders. The pages were originally un-numbered. I have taken the liberty of numbering them and included the year the clippings were published on each page. Some clippings were repeated on different pages because on one page the clipping was truncated and on the other, the clipping is given in full. This index will note only the page number of the completed clipping. Included with the clippings is a copy of a two A3 page hand written list of members of early Melbourne Betar with their date and place of birth, when and where joined Betar and their rank in Betar, and any army service. Since Yosef Steiner is listed, this must date from the early 1950s. This list is not included in the index. All clippings are from the Sydney Jewish News except page 100, which is from the Herut Digest of September 1975, page 101 which is from The Australian Jewish News Sydney Edition of 11 January, 1991, page 102 which is from the Australian Jewish News Sydney Edition of 19 February, 1999 and page 103 which is from The Australian Jewish News of 30 August, 2013. These are in addition to Bob Sitsky’s original clippings. Bob dated each clipping with the date of publication and placed them in date order. In the few cases where the clipping is undated, its position with other dated clippings will allow an approximation of its date of publication to be made.
