Author(s) Morris Forbes AbstractFrom the earliest times, Australian Jewish settlers were concerned to establish places of worship and, also, burial grounds. Thus it was that in 1853 Crown Grants were made to Samuel Davis, Samuel Benjamin and Nathan Mandelson as Trustees for the Jews of Goulburn numbering then about 100 persons, for the erection of a Synagogue and School. No such buildings was ever erected and in 1891 the subject land was resumed by the Crown for other purposes.
