DescriptionOn the outbreak of the war the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) formed a War Emergency Board to raise funds for the (Sydney) Lord Mayor's Comfort Fund and to contribute towards other war time needs. A shop in Her Majesty's Arcade was opened in June 1940, donated rent-free by the estate of Angus & Coote, and in July 1940 the NCJW announced that permission had been received from the Council to erect a kiosk on the vacant land in Martin Place.
