In March 2022 Ukraine came under attack from her neighbour, Russia. Ukraine has a long history and was, for a time, an important centre of Jewish life in Europe. It is the birthplace of sages and scholars, and many of us trace our ancestry back to shtetls, towns and cities such as Lviv, Ternopil and Kiev. In this special issue of Kosher Koala we look back at Ukraine's history and the place of our Jewish forebears in society. We learn about a network of volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the last 4 months to ensure the digital culture of the country is preserved. And we hear stories of ancestors connected to Ukraine from members and friends.
