Author(s) Sydney B. Glass AbstractFrom the tower of the Goulburn and District War Memorial a tourist looks down on the expanse of a well-ordered city of wide, impressive thoroughfares and splendid civic buildings. A little apart from the main business centre, whose echoes scarcely reach it, the Anglican Cathedral rises from lawns and gardens in a stately and dignified pile. The Roman Catholic fane, nearby, is resplendent in stonework of blue granite. With associate buildings, it occupies almost the whole area of a city square. No less zealous are other faiths in the care of their churches and chapels, and many have school or college to buttress and encourage the interests of the citizens in their social and other work.
