BiographyTheodore Fink was born in Guernsey and arrived in Melbourne at the age of 6 with his family including his older brother Benjamin. Unlike his brother, his main interests lay in the arts rather than in business ventures. He was a lawyer and writer as well as an ardent supporter of federation. His active social life included friendships with leading politicians such as Alfred Deakin, writers such as Marcus Clarke and artists such as Tom Roberts. His parliamentary career was distinguished by presenting a number of bills to establish and improve public education. After leaving parliament, he became the chairman of the Melbourne Herald and retained that position for the remainder of his life. Theodore Fink died in Sydney at the age of 86 survived by two sons and two daughters.
