BiographyBenjamin Josman Fink was born in Guernsey and arrived in Melbourne as a 14 year old with his family including his younger brother Theodore. He was primarily a businessman owning a furniture store in Melbourne and trading in department stores, commercial buildings and especially gold. He opened a small bank that was absorbed by the much larger City of Melbourne Bank making a substantial profit. His heavy speculation in land became undone when the Victorian land boom collapsed in the 1880s and he returned to Britain leaving massive debts behind. His time in the colonial parliament was always subservient to his business interests. Benjamin Fink died in London at the age of 62.
