BiographySydney Max Falstein (commonly known as Max Falstein) was born in Coffs Harbour NSW to a non-Jewish Russian born father and a German Jewish mother. However, he fell out with his mother and his Jewish faith when he married Ila Greig who was not Jewish. After some years in New Zealand, he joined the ALP and was successfully elected for the Sydney seat of Watson. During his first term in parliament, he clashed with Prime Minister John Curtin over issues concerning the air force. In 1948 he was convicted of falsifying documents and lost his endorsement to the ALP. His main contribution subsequent to parliament was his avowed anti-communism. He was declared bankrupt in 1958 and died in Sydney at the age of 52.
