BiographySamuel Emmanuel was born in Portsmouth, England and migrated to Australia as a free settler in 1832. He and his wife Dinah, opened a general store in Goulburn in 1845. He then acquired considerable property around the town and formed a private bank in partnership with Louis Mandelson. He was elected to the NSW Colonial Parliament in 1862 and served one term being defeated at the subsequent election. Samuel Emmanuel died in Sydney at the age of 65 survived by three sons and three daughters.
