BiographyHarold Edward Cohen was born in Melbourne into a distinguished family of Anglo Jewish community and business leaders. His grandfather was Edward Cohen a former Mayor of Melbourne and member of parliament. Harold Cohen was a solicitor and decorated soldier prior to entering politics. Among other ministerial portfolios, he was Solicitor General of Victoria in 1935. While a member of parliament, he participated in a wide range of other activities. He was president of the Boy Scouts Association, Melbourne Rotary and the Jewish Returned and Ex-Serviceman’s Association. He continued to work in the military reserve retiring with the rank of brigadier. Harold Cohen died in Melbourne at the age of 64 and received a full military funeral.
