BiographyMoses Henry Cass was born in Narrogin, Western Australia to Jewish parents who had fled from Tsarist Russia due to antisemitism. He graduated in medicine from Sydney University and became known as an advocate for abortion law reform. He entered parliament in 1969 and on the election of the Whitlam government in 1972 became the Minister for Environment and Conservation changing portfolios in 1975 to Minister for the Media. He resigned from parliament before the 1983 election. In later years, he was appointed chair of the Australian National Biocentre. Dr. Cass was a critic of Israel especially over the Gaza war in 2009. He died in Melbourne at the age of 95.
