BiographyJoshua Solomon Burns was born In Melbourne, the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, and educated at Mt. Scopus College. He studied politics at Monash University and worked on the staff of state and federal politicians. After a rather controversial pre-selection process, he became the ALP candidate for the new seat of Macnamara at the 2019 federal election. The seat has the second highest proportion of Jewish voters after Wentworth (NSW) and both major parties selected Jewish candidates leading to some heated debates. On many occasions Mr. Burns has affirmed that he is “proudly Jewish” and is a known advocate for Holocaust awareness, support of Israel, and refugee causes in general.
