BiographyJoseph Max Berinson was born in Perth in 1932, the son of immigrants from Safed, then part of mandated Palestine. He graduated as a pharmacist in 1953 and about the same time joined the ALP. He was an active member of the Perth Hebrew Congregation and became an editor of the Jewish newspaper, The Maccabean. He became the member for Perth in 1969 after standing unsuccessfully twice previously. He was briefly Minister for the Environment in the final year of the Whitlam government before losing his seat in 1975. He then graduated in law and entered the Western Australia state parliament in 1980 serving until 1993. He was Attorney General of Western Australia from 1983 to 1993. After leaving politics, Mr. Berinson became president of the Jewish Community Council of Western Australia. He died in Perth, aged 86.
