BiographyMichael Ehrenfried Baume was born in Sydney and obtained a BA from Sydney University before becoming a well-known stockbroker, journalist and music critic. He was best known for his 1967 book, The Sydney Opera House Affair describing the controversial background to the famous building. He turned to politics and represented the seat of Macarthur from 1975 to 1983. He represented NSW as a Senator from 1985 to 1996 after which he left the parliament to become Australian consul-general in New York. He writes regular columns for the Australian Financial Review and is a council member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Baume is a cousin of Dr. Peter Baume.
