AbstractCharts the development of the Board of Deputies from the "Public Relations" section of the Jewish Advisory Board. The "Bureau of Public Affairs" was first created to counter anti-Semitism, when the Jewish community began to voice the need for a larger, more democratic committee. The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies was thus established in response in 1943, and began to sit in 1945. This article looks at the Board's early challenges and achievements.
